Vancouver Announces 2017 roster, Freechild returns to Roughnecks, Helton moves from DC to Raleigh

The Vancouver Riptide have announced their 2017 roster. Out of the 36 players on their roster, the Riptide return 23. Of the returners, look for Darren Wu, Vancouver’s all-time goals leader (92), to be a spark plug in a top 10 offensive squad. The franchise has yet to make their playoff berth, but this could be their season.

Dylan Freechild is back with the Dallas Roughnecks. After putting up 22 assists and nine goals as a defensive player in the 2016 campaign, Freechild is looking to keep the trophy in Dallas in 2017. Unfortunately, Freechild will be without Cassidy Rasmussen and Beau Kittredge this coming season but he will still have Jimmy Mickle and Kurt Gibson.

“I’m re-signing mostly because I saw an opportunity to improve as a player,” Freechild told Ultiworld. “I’ve never been a part of a team that has the opportunity to defend a title and that intrigued me.”

Two time AUDL M.V.P Jonathan Helton signs with the Raleigh Flyers. The man whom Brodie Smith followed to the Chicago Wildfire in 2013 from the Indianapolis Alleycats and then joined the DC Breeze is now making the move to the Flyers. The Flyers finished second in the South last season and lost to the Atlanta Hustle in the first round of the playoffs. Helton is second all-time in league history in assists (181), ninth in goals (131), and second in blocks (113).

  1. I love the multiple ways to interact in this post. I had the access to so much more information than just your word. It made me more interested in the sport of Ultimate and I actually searched around for more stories about Ultimate. The highlight reel was awesome!
